Description
"The ground floor of the Roman bell tower with twin bays was the choir of the medieval Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church. Recently restored mural paintings depict the coronation of the Virgin Mary and several saints. In 1777 Pastor Oberlin replaced the nave with a space that was more in keeping with the Protestant religion as the pews and stalls were spread on three sides facing the pulpit.
Fouday Church is tightly bound to Pastor Jean Frédéric Oberlin and his remains are laid to rest in the neighbouring cemetery. The iron cross above his grave reads ""Papa Oberlin"", a testimonial to the recognition his parishioners had for his social, educational and spiritual work. The entire site made up of the church and cemetery is listed as a Monument Historique."
