Historical tour - the castle district
Chatenois
Description
The area known as "the castle" of Châtenois, also known as the "old fortified cemetery", is located in the south-west of the commune, on the foothills of the Vosges hills. It is isolated by a double enclosure, each bordered by a ditch.
This circuit, set up in 2010, is made up of 9 thematic panels which offer an in-situ reading of the remains still visible inside the district and along the ramparts. The results of the excavations are gradually being integrated as the research progresses. The site is visited by many people, particularly in spring during the Fête des Remparts, as well as by tourists, for whom the texts have been translated (English, German).
