Description
Only 5 minutes by car or a 1½-hour walk from the town centre, the Haut-Barr Castle, nicknamed “The Eye of Alsace”, is built atop three rocks 470 metres above the plain.
A mediaeval castle in ruins since the 12th century, it occupies a strategic position between the Lorraine plateau and the Alsace plain.
The current castle was built in 1583 by Jean de Manderscheid. The rocks’ summit can be reach by stairs. A footbridge called the “Devil’s Bridge” also connects two of them.
Enjoy the glorious view and see if you can spot the spire of Strasbourg Cathedrals !
