Illhaeusern - the boatmen's village
Description
village on the plain (altitude 176 m), 7 km from the Wine Route, with 653 inhabitants, 7 km from Ribeauvillé and 11 km from Riquewihr. Local inhabitants and visitors are supplied by various shops and mobile businesses. There are two hotels, several restaurants – one famous – as well as bed-and-breakfast rooms and a camping area.
Formerly engaged in water trading, Illhaeusern derives its name from the Ill, a pretty river which flows through the village, and indeed gave its name to all of Alsace.
A charming village, particularly attractive at Christmastime, Illhaeusern is the ideal place for a restful holiday in natural surroundings.
