Description
A mountain village (altitude 800 m) on a vast plateau. The highest village in Alsace, it currently has 410 inhabitants, and the official status of 'Green Holiday Resort' and 'Winter Resort Village'.
Aubure is located 13 km from Ribeauvillé and 17 km from Riquewihr, close to the Val d'Argent and the Pays Welche.
The village and holidaymakers are supplied by various local retailers. The facilities available include a municipal campsite, bed-and-breakfast accommodation, furnished flats, a gîte, as well as restaurants and table-d'hôte catering and two riding hostels.
Ideal for rest and relaxation, its fir and pine forests and its vast meadows are perfect for hiking, mountain biking and riding. A marked trail enables visitors to explore the village's environment and history. Close to the GR5 trail, it remains a favourite stop with hikers. Mountain farmers continue to raise livestock, as in the past.
In winter, its exceptional medium altitude and sunny climate make it a favourite with cross-country skiers and snowshoers. Much of the population is employed by the two large rehabilitation centres of Salem and Muesberg.
