Description
the pagan wall of Mont Sainte-Odile.
On this easy hike, you will discover the largest megalithic remains in Europe. This wall is still intriguing. The first written records of it refer to it as a pagan wall, thus attributing its construction to a period earlier than Christianisation. Ceramics from the 4th and 5th centuries BC have been discovered on the summit rock, indicating very early human occupation. The historical context of its construction and the function of this huge structure remain a mystery.
Hiking tour taken from the “Topo-Guide Randonnée” guidebook (10 tours) for sale at the Obernai Tourist Office. Only in french.
